Smash Burgers are all the rage, but have you ever tried a Smash Brattie with Beeler’s Bratwurst?! Enjoy with our Beeler’s twist on traditional Thousand Island Dressing (aka “Special Sauce”). Our Smash Sauce is great on burgers, brats, schnitzel and more- the only limit is your imagination!

One package of Beeler’s Bratwurst will yield 3 double Smash Bratty burgers. Scale the recipe up or down as needed.

Ingredients:

Smash Bratties

  • 1 package Beeler’s uncooked Bratwurst
  • ¾ C shredded lettuce
  • 3 seeded sesame buns
  • 6 slices of American cheese
  • 1 C Beeler’s Smash Sauce
  • neutral oil or cooking spray for smashing

Smash Sauce:

  • ½ C Ketchup
  • ⅓ C Mayonnaise
  • ¾ C Sauerkraut
  • 1-2 TBSP juice from Saurkraut

Equipment (Brats):

  • 12 pcs 6″x6″ squares of parchment
  • Small saute pan for “smashing” the bratties
  • kitchen scissors, for removing the casing from the bratwurst
  • metal spatula
  • Stainless steel saute pan, griddle, or cast-iron pan/griddle

Equipment (Sauce):

  • 1 medium sized mixing bowl
  • 1 rubber spatula or wooden spoon
  • measuring cups
  • measuring spoons

Instructions:

  1. Cut and remove the casings from the bratwurst.
  2. Shape the meat into balls larger than a ping pong ball, smaller than a tennis ballapproximately
⅔ of one brat per patty.
  3. Once all of the balls are portioned, lightly coat them with cooking oil/spray
  4. Working one ball at a time, place the meat between two pieces of parchment and then
use the saute pan to press down, applying even pressure, the patties should be about ¼”
    thick.
  5. Heat your pan over medium- high heat and cook the patties on the first side until they are
about 80% cooked through- this will give you maximum color, texture, and juicyness!
  6. Flip your burger and top with cheese. Once the cheese begins to melt, remove it from the
pan and place it on the bun.
  7. Top the first cheese patty with the second cheesy patty, add a little smash sauce, a nice
handful of lettuce, and then more smash sauce before capping it off with the top bun.

Notes:

  • Set up your fixins station before handling raw meat. Have the lettuce, buns, and sauce
lined up on a large, clean cutting board so you can assembled safely and quickly as
soon as those bratties leave the griddle!
  • Separate your cheese slices and have them handy at the stove so you get that nice melty
melt action before building your bratties!

Sauce:

  1. Combine the ketchup & mayo in the bowl and mix until evenly combined.
  2. Fold in the sauerkraut.
  3. Taste the sauce and add Sauerkraut juice until desired tang.
  4. Enjoy!
